Alternates Policy
To help give bars maximum value for their sponsorship, the league is adopting an Alternate Policy beginning with the King Slayer promotion to allow certain bubble players (2nd and 3rd place League Champs/TOCs and well as bubble players at State Tournaments) to play if designated winner(s) decline to participate in the National Tournaments.
Players will be listed as ALTERNATE-1 or ALTERNATE-2 on the official National Qualifier lists. Alternates will be encouraged to go regardless of the winner’s status and compete in the National Series:
- A) Take the seat if the winner declines to attend
- B) Allowed to compete in Last Chance and other bonus qualifiers
What Does This Mean?
Bubble players in the League Champ and TOC races have a chance to represent their bar in the League Champ Championship if the Medallion winner no-shows. Alternates also have the benefit of being allowed to play in other events at nationals including Last Chance and other Bonus qualifiers. Therefore, all alternates will be encouraged to attend the National Event. The increased participation has the potential to give every bar full representation in the promo and also build a larger prize pool. Win-Win.
Note! Alternate status does NOT affect or result in additional starting stack bonuses.
Who qualifies as an Alternate?
- League Champs - Runner Up - LC-Alternate 1 3rd Place - LC-Alternate 2
- Tournament of Champions - Runner Up - TOC Alternate 1 3rd Place - TOC Alternate 2
- State Champions - Bubble player(s) - State Champ Alternate (# of bubble players will depend on total size of field)
Note: Alternates will NOT be considered for Monthly leaderboards, Regional qualifiers, online etc. Alternate status does not count for qualification chip bonuses. A player cannot improve their starting chip count based on Alternate status, for example, Player A has already qualified for the League Champ Championship, and was also an alternate in a League Champ race, they do not receive chip bonus for the alternate status. They have NOT "qualified twice". The purpose of alternates is to fill seats so the bar has full representation, not to award bonus chips.
Example
Joe Schmo, League Champ and Medallion winner from Awesome Pub has declined to participate in the National League Champ Championship where he could win a custom bracelet and $10,000 grand prize. Jane Doe, who was 2nd in total points for Awesome Pub has been designated as “League Champ Alternate-1” and can take Joe’s seat to ensure Awesome Pub has a player to represent their bar in the tournament. If Jane declines, the 3rd place player Jackie Stacks (“Alternate-2”) is welcome to take the seat. No additional alternates are allowed after the first 2 alternates.
