We were saddened to learn the news that former Dakota Poker League state champion Joyce Whitmore from Hope, ND passed away unexpectedly at the end of January. Back in 2007 before the formation of FPN things were separated by state champions. Joyce beat the whole state of ND to win a $10,000 WSOP Main Event Seat. She played that summer and held the title for the longest lasting FPN player ever in the WSOP until 2015. Joyce made it to day 3 playing some unbelievable remarkable poker just falling short of making it into the money. Joyce played in multiple leagues in her area and will be missed at the tables.
Bob Tweten, League Champ of the Spring session at El Roco in Grand Forks, one of the ORIGINAL players dating back to the early days of the poker league (has at least 54 all-time wins in the league since 2007), beat THE BLIZZARD and 230 national qualifiers to take The CROWN, The TROPHY, and The CASH.
What a weekend.
In a streak of bad luck for everyone involved, The Blizzard of 2019 turned in to a serious threat to the Cash King National Championship. Flights were cancelled. Roads were closed. Players throughout the upper Midwest flying out of Chicago, Minneapolis, Sioux Falls, Fargo, and Grand Forks, and possibly others (?) dealt with serious delays or cancelled flights. For the majority of players in the league, just getting to Vegas was a win. We heard story after story about players and their nightmarish travel situations, many doing whatever it took to get out of town, including driving in blizzard conditions.

Chad Herring from Fargo, ND won the National online TOC this past Sunday. He bested out 60 other players to get qualified for the Nationals on January 28th. Joining him will be Chad Kolloen who won the summer regional tournament the weekend before. Chad is from Dickinson, ND. Congrats to both the Chad's and get ready for some sun and fun in Las Vegas!
