Thomas Gjerde from Spur Bar & Grill in Willmar MN Wins King Slayer Top Prize of $25,000 Cash
Gjerde was one of 202 players that took their seat in the King Slayer Championship Main Event. Gjerde qualified by playing free poker on Tuesday nights at Spurs Bar & Grill in Willmar, where he was crowned League Champ in the Spring session. Spurs Bar & Grill in Willmar hosts the league with an average of around 20 players who play for free drinks and most importantly points towards qualifying for state and national contests. Gjerde was the Spring session League Champ which automatically earned him the opportunity to compete in Las Vegas. Gjerde also placed high in the Minnesota State Championship, and earned a double stack playing a bonus events at the national series as well.

In addition to the final table prizes, $10,000 in Mystery Bounties were awarded. Players were given sealed envelopes and there were 61 various bounty awards mixed in. The top bounty prize was won by Tracy Leonard $2,000. Other big bounties were captured by Mike Marek $1,000 and Dennis Duncan $1,000.
The bounties added a lot of excitement to the tournament, especially in the early stages. The last man standing, Thomas Gjerde, opened his bounty at the very end to see he was in fact holding a $500 bounty on himself the whole time.
