Tyndall's Sportsman's Rendezvous Home to Two Distinct National Champs!

Congratulations are in order to the Sportsman's Rendezvous in Tyndall, which set a league record during our Destination Las Vegas National Championship this July by producing yet another player to take down a national championship event! That's right, Tyndall resident Brian Kozak managed to take down a field of 24 players--including two-time national qualifier Nels Peterson (runner up) of Waite Park, MN, and fellow South Dakotan and Roslyn resident Troy Sattler (3rd place)--on July 1st at Caesar's Palace to become our latest National Champion!

For his win, Kozak walked away with an optional prize package including a $2,500 buy-in to WSOP Event #56, cold hard cash, and two tickets to UFC: 116 featuring South Dakota’s Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar (valued at more than $600). Kozak’s win adds to the stories of success coming from the Sportsmen's Rendezvous, a small-town bar that has had more than its share of big winners since joining the Dakota Poker League a few years ago. Former national champion Doug Magee, who also played out of the Sportsman's Rendezvous in Tyndall, won the DPL’s Ship It promotion in spring 2009. Between these two poker players, Sportsman's has managed to produce two national champions out of a field of more than 10,000 players nationwide.

“Kozak’s win was impressive, considering the field of 24 players was made up of a former national champion and three other two-time national qualifiers,” said Pete Bushey FPN’s administrator who attended the event. “We were happy and a bit surprised to see another winner come out of Tyndall. They obviously know how to play a strong hand of poker down there.”

Tyndall Resident Brian Kozak Wins National Poker Championship,

Becomes Second Player from the Sportsman’s Rendezvous to Win National Event

(Las Vegas, NV) July 9, 2010 — The Dakota Poker League (DPL), South Dakota’s leading FREE-to-PLAY Texas Hold’em league, is excited to announce that Tyndall resident Brian Kozak has won its Destination Las Vegas: World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2010 National Championship event held at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas Thursday, July 1st. For his win, Kozak walked away with an optional prize package including a $2,500 buy-in to WSOP Event #56, cold hard cash, and two tickets to UFC: 116 featuring South Dakota’s Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar (valued at more than $600).

Kozak earned his seat in this 24-player national championship event by playing FREE weekly games organized by DPL and sponsored by the Sportsman’s Rendezvous in Tyndall on Thursday nights. He then qualified at the regional level to make it to the state tournament held at the Stadium in Madison this past May where he was one of two lucky players to earn a seat in the national championship event as well as a free three-night stay on the Las Vegas Strip and airfare allowance.

Kozak defeated two-time national qualifier Nels Peterson (runner up) of Waite Park, MN, and fellow South Dakotan and Roslyn resident Troy Sattler (3rd place) in the end. Kozak’s win adds to the stories of success coming from the Sportsmen's Rendezvous, a small-town bar that has had more than its share of big winners since joining the Dakota Poker League a few years ago. Former national champion Eric Magee, also of Tyndall, won the DPL’s Ship It promotion in spring 2009. Between these two poker players, Tyndall has managed to produce two national champions out of a field of more than 10,000 players nationwide.

“Kozak’s win was impressive, considering the field of 24 players was made up of a former national champion and three other two-time national qualifiers,” said Pete Bushey FPN’s administrator who attended the event. “We were happy and a bit surprised to see another winner come out of Tyndall. SD Champ Troy Sattler Cashes at the 2010 WSOP!

070210-tsattlerThe success stories for South Dakota league players keep rolling in from the Destination Las Vegas: 2010 WSOP promotion! Roslyn resident and DLV state champ Troy Sattler placed 278 out of 3,844 entrants in the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Event #54, cashing out for $2,110.

Sattler earned his seat and the $1,000 buy-in for the WSOP Event #54, held at the Rio in Las Vegas starting Friday, July 2nd, by playing FREE weekly games organized by DPL on Wednesday nights at the Decoy Bar in Webster. He then qualified at the regional level to make it to the state tournament held at the Stadium Sports Grill in Madison this past May where he was one of two lucky players to earn a guaranteed seat in Event #54 as well as a free three-night stay on the Las Vegas Strip and airfare allowance.

Sattler had a one in 24 chance to turn his $1,000 buy-in into a $10,000 WSOP Main Event seat during the Free Poker Network’s (FPN) Destination Las Vegas: WSOP 2010 National Championship on Thursday, July 1st at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, but it wasn’t in the cards for him that day. However, he did manage to make the most of his FREE $1,000 buy-in to Event #54 by placing in the money and bringing home some cold hard cash.

Pete Bushey, FPN’s administrator who attended the event, said: “Sattler was very short stacked throughout most of the tournament. He didn’t think he’d make the money, but he ended up holding on and went home with a nice stack of cash. We’re very happy for him.”
